Insights from Rich DiGeronimo, Charter’s President, Product and Technology
Q: Tell us about Spectrum’s converged connectivity offering.
A: Our Spectrum One bundle combines three products: Spectrum Internet, Spectrum Advanced WiFi, and Spectrum Mobile, which includes nationwide 5G access. This combination, known as “Gig-Powered Wireless,” delivers a future-proof connectivity experience. Spectrum One offers unmatched value and continuous connectivity, ensuring seamless browsing and streaming wherever customers go.
We’ve further enhanced this offer by introducing Spectrum One Stream, which integrates Spectrum One with Spectrum TV and the Xumo Stream Box. This new streaming device leverages the top-rated Spectrum TV App, consolidating all major streaming apps and live TV into one platform with award-winning voice search. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with over 1 million Xumo devices already deployed.
Q: How do customers benefit from bundling Spectrum Internet and Advanced WiFi with Spectrum Mobile?
A: Spectrum is the nation’s fastest-growing mobile provider, largely due to the value of bundling our products. Customers can save money and enjoy features like Spectrum Speed Boost, which automatically increases speeds for Spectrum Mobile customers connected to Advanced WiFi. Spectrum Mobile delivers the nation’s fastest overall wireless speeds when combined with WiFi, with over 85% of Spectrum Mobile customers’ activity occurring over WiFi. Time spent on a 5G cellular network is actually the slowest level of service.
Q: How does Spectrum Security Shield ensure a safe connection for Spectrum customers?
A: Cybersecurity threats are increasingly sophisticated. Spectrum Advanced WiFi’s Security Shield leverages machine learning to prevent unauthorized access to private networks, blocking over 1 billion threats per year. When customers connect to any of our Spectrum WiFi access points, Security Shield ensures their data is protected.
Q: What is cell phone internet service and how does it compare to Spectrum’s connectivity offerings?
A: Cell phone internet service, or “fixed wireless access,” uses cell towers and radio frequencies. Unlike Spectrum Internet, cell phone internet is susceptible to interference from distance and obstructions like walls. Performance can also be impacted by network congestion, especially during peak hours (7-11 p.m.), leading to throttling and buffering. Spectrum’s fiber-rich network offers significantly faster and more reliable speeds than T-Mobile and Verizon cell phone internet during peak hours. We are also investing in our network to roll out symmetrical and multi-gig speeds in the future.
Q: As Spectrum continues to evolve its network, what can users do with this high-speed internet?
A: High-speed internet supports advanced devices like the Apple Vision Pro, which requires more data than a 4K television for each eye. Beyond virtual reality, the growing IoT ecosystem drives innovation in smart homes, healthcare, and automotive industries, all requiring a seamless, secure, fast, and reliable connection. Our evolving network ensures we meet today’s and tomorrow’s connectivity demands.
